Jim McGovern is founding Chairman of the Canadian Chapter of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA). Jim is the Managing Director & CEO of Arrow Hedge Partners Inc., a company he founded in December 1999.
Prior to founding Arrow Hedge, Mr. McGovern was co-founder and CEO of BPI Financial Corporation, a public corporation with shares listed on The Toronto Stock Exchange. Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, BPI managed or administered over CDN$6 billion on behalf of primarily Canadian and U.S. investors. BPI was acquired by C.I. Fund Management Inc. in August 1999.
Mr. McGovern pioneered developing hedge fund products to the Canadian retail investor. In 1995, he was responsible for launching the BPI Global Opportunities Fund for sophisticated investors. Under Mr. McGovern’s leadership, BPI successfully managed over CDN$500 million on behalf of sophisticated high net worth investors.
Mr. McGovern is actively involved in the international hedge fund community and has spoken at conferences in Canada and globally. He is a member of the advisory boards for both Can Hedge and the Certified Hedge Fund Specialist Course and is a Director of the Barbados based, Arrow Hedge Partners International Inc.
Mr. McGovern graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce and Finance degree in 1985. He is active in several charitable organizations, and serves on the Board of The National Ballet of Canada. Mr. McGovern is also on the Board of Trustees of the Fraser Institute, an independent Canadian economic and social research and educational organization.
